FAQ
ABOUT COACHING
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a dynamic process in which I partner with
you for a short time to help you remember your strengths,
your gifts, your goals and your dreams.
I think of coaching as accompanying you on a journey back
to yourself. In each session, I’ll ask you questions,
give you homework, offer you resources to help you understand
yourself and the journey better, and introduce exercises
and techniques to help you overcome obstacles.
How is Coaching Different from
Therapy?
If you have significant depression or
other psychological symptoms, you probably need therapy
rather than coaching.
In therapy, the focus is on a problem or dysfunction
that is crippling you. The therapist helps you
to explore your past so that you can understand how your
issues developed. The therapist acts as the expert, setting
the agenda and direction of your sessions.
In coaching, instead of focusing on your dysfunction,
you focus on your goals and your gifts, and you
start from where you are today. Coaching assumes that
nothing is broken--you are healthy, whole, and creative.
I’m here to prompt, support, point out, encourage,
and reframe so that you can access your own wisdom as
I accompany you on this stretch of your journey.
Coaching is a partnership relationship rather than a patient/expert
relationship.
Can I be in Therapy and Coaching
at the Same Time?
In some cases, it works well for clients to address psychological
issues with a therapist while simultaneously creating
a life plan or addressing transition issues with a coach.
Is Coaching Confidential?
The professional organization for coaches, the ICF, sets
high standards for confidentiality. I absolutely do not
discuss clients outside of sessions.
How Long Will Coaching Take?
Most people opt for a three-month program, which gives
you enough time to see changes begin to take hold in your
life. Many extend for an additional three months to take
their journey to the next level. For focused issues, the
four-session intensive works quite well. |
